There are 16,000-plus disc golf courses in the world, and around 90 nations boast at least one of them.

But where in the world is disc golf most popular? Here's where you can find out.

Discover below which countries logged the most rounds of disc golf per capita and in general with the UDisc app, the sport's most popular method for scorekeeping, course-finding, and much more.

A world map with countries in different blues and grays showing where the most disc golf rounds pers capita are played in the world
The darker the blue, the more rounds per capita were recorded with UDisc in the country in 2024.

What Stuck Out

We adore stats and the stories they tell at UDisc (just take a look at our latest Disc Golf Growth Report if you don't believe us). Here's what caught our eye when we put together the rankings you'll find here:

  • Nordics lead the way
There are five countries widely accepted as "Nordic" – Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. If you accept arguments that Estonia, too, should be considered Nordic (though it's often thought of as Baltic, at least geographically), all six of the top six countries in disc golf rounds per capita from 2024 were in that group. What's the secret sauce up there? We can't speak for every place, but it's likely some of the reasons for disc golf's success in Finland and Iceland apply to other Nordic nations.
  • Norwegian good
Norway simply destroyed every other country in terms of rounds per capita. To get an idea of the astounding ratio of disc golf rounds to people in Norway, think about this: The U.S. (the country with the most total rounds in general) would have needed to add over 99 million rounds to its actual 2024 round total of around 14 million to match Norway's per capita pace.
  • Paul McBeth Foundation's work shows
A number of countries that have gotten courses through the non-profit Paul McBeth Foundation (PMF) popped up in either the most rounds per capita or most total rounds rankings. The PMF focuses on building disc golf courses in areas where there are very few or no courses and a lack of resources to build them (like their first one in Mexico) and in urban areas where no courses exist (such as New York City). The countries in the rankings that had 2024 round counts that were significantly affected by PMF courses include Colombia, Mexico, Montenegro, Spain, and Uganda (though Poland is getting a PMF course in Krakow this year).
  • Åland not in the rankings but well worth a mention
We didn't include autonomously-governed territories that are technically part of other nations (e.g., Greenland that's associated with Denmark, Guam that's tied to the U.S., etc.) in these rankings. But the Åland Islands – an autonomously-governed part of Finland – and their astounding 19,802 logged rounds with a population of around 30,000 have more than earned a tip of the cap. That's around 66 rounds per 100 inhabitants (about double Norway's mark in that area) and more total rounds than were recorded in Mexico, a place with a population 4,343 times bigger than Åland's. We have blog posts that can help you learn more about the project that gave Åland a wealth of disc golf courses as well as get tips for visiting it.

About the Stats

Here are things you should know about the stats used to make the rankings of which U.S. states play the most disc golf:

  • Round counts – Why UDisc rounds are a good measuring stick
The round totals refer to rounds recorded with the UDisc app from January 1-December 31, 2024. Since UDisc is the sport's most popular form of mobile scorekeeping, it's extremely likely that where there are the most UDisc rounds, there are also the most rounds in general.
  • Round counts – The actual numbers are much higher
Though UDisc round counts are the best measurement in the sport for showing disc golf's popularity, far from every round is recorded with UDisc. Bear in mind that as impressive as the round counts are, the real numbers are likely thousands, tens of thousands, or, in some cases, hundreds of thousands more.
  • Population
Population totals come from estimates for 2024 from the United Nations.
  • Not exactly "per capita"
Stat aficianados will notice that the "Rounds Per 100 Residents" figure we use under the "Per Capita" header isn't exactly "per capita" (though, importantly, the rankings would stay the same even if we had used a strict interpretation). This is a conscious choice we made to help readers better understand the numbers as well as find them if they look for them.
