About the course

** Course has gone through a (3rd) redesign. This redesign was necessary due to the 2023 Drought & Pine Beetle Infestation. “The Rez” is located on the scenic banks of the Ross Barnett Reservoir. The course features Par 3’s, 4’s, & 5’s. Maintained by the JUDGES Disc Golf Club since 2000. •Rotating Advanced/Pro layout (Blue / Discatcher) •(not currently in use) Permanent Recreational Layout (Silver / Mach II)

History

2000’ - A small community installed the first layout at The Rez and created the disc golf club we know as the Jackson Union of Disc Golf Enthusiasts (JUDGES) 2014’ - Pearl River Valley attempts to install a Beach on the shoreline of Old 18 (near the existing hole 15). The Beach was never finished. 2015’ - With Hole 18 out of commission the 1st redesign was called for, and “Birdie Bay” was born as well as a new finishing hole. 2022’ - late in the year Pearl River Valley started a dredging project to clear silt out of coves along the banks of the Ross Barnett Reservoir. “The Rez” was chosen as the dump sight for the silt leaving a 5 acre pool of mud in the middle of Hole 18 & 14. Due to the project the community created the 2nd Redesign - adding the “A Hole” between Hole 6 & 7 and Hole 17 was now the finishing hole. 2023’ - Mississippi had a Drought, the Drought led to a Pine Beetle Infestation which then led to the death of 12.5 Million Pine Trees in the state. 2024’ - PRV finishes the dredging project, but it’s too late. Due to the 2023’ issues, Pearl River Valley was forced to remove nearly all of the pine trees. Hole 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, & 18 were turned into blank fields. 2025’ - with the course left stranded, the 3rd redesign was unfortunately called for. Several stump removals later JUDGES, with the help of Pearl River Valley, created the now existing layout.

Fun course but needs some work. Lots of trees were just cleared on holes 1 and 2 (it needed it too). Some silver baskets are missing. Hole 18 baskets are missing and you play an alternative basket around hole 6. A much more variety needs to be had on some of the holes for the two different layouts. Some minor elevation changes and some scary shots near the water. Views were pretty at sunset on the water. Glad we made the stop, but it’s not a destination course.

Seems as though the whole course has been demolished, locals have done what they can to preserve some assemblance of a well flowing open course. Still very playable and fun.
