I recognize this was built as a project by a local student. That’s cool and I respect that any kid would show that level of initiative. Good for them. And they got some things right that they should be proud of. That said, this course is not safe and should be redesigned ASAP. It’s not just crossing fairways, which are problematic enough. The baskets are dangerously close to teepads. Hole 8 encourages you to throw directly toward a softball field. There were players in the outfield when we were throwing, easily within 50ft of the basket. We know better than to risk it, but not everyone will. This course will be played disproportionately by novice disc golfers by nature of it being at a high school. Someone will inevitably get hit with a disc out here, at which point the course could get removed anyway. Please invite someone from the local disc golf community to help redesign the layout.

Excellent but tight nine holer. They make great use of the natural space, but would love to see this turn into an 18 hole at some point. Great design!

Permanent baskets are in place. Tee pads are poured, but they are small and way too close to the last holes basket. I will play here again.

Designed by a high school student and built with help from his fellow students. With this in mind, this is an excellent community project. The only change I’d make is turning hole 3 into a par 3 with the tee pad halfway down the path.

When I found out Petersburg was getting a disc golf course I was excited. I got out and walked the course today and after seeing the course I am greatly disappointed. The course is still under construction but the pads are poured and the baskets are in and there are a few major issues with the design. First of all, playing the course will be dangerous if there is ever more than one card playing at a time. The design has several holes that cross each other. On top of that, a giant mound in the middle of the crossing fairways makes this even more dangerous as you are blind to anyone playing the other holes. Secondly, the tee pads on several holes are no more than 5-10 feet from the previous basket. Since the course is still under construction the next couple points could be fixed but at the time of writing this, the tee pads are woefully short. My estimate is 6 feet max in length. Also, on several holes, they had the holes dug for the tee signs, but the placement of the hole would put the sign in the way of a run up or the throw. The property has lots of potential but it feels like this was a high school project done by someone who heard of disc golf but has never really played it. I will probably still play the course when I don’t have time to drive to Springfield or Peoria but I wouldn’t advise anyone make the drive to Petersburg specifically to play this course.
