About the course

River bends is a 27 hole course that has had many different layouts throughout the years. The current layout was finished mid 2016. The front 9 holes offer some elevation change, long technical lines, and a few chances to lose an errant shot if you aren’t weary. The middle 12 holes are relatively flat and the river comes into play on multiple holes. Lots of RHBH hyzer shots. The remaining holes offer a chance to throw some big risk/reward shots. Come prepared for mud and/or standing water if it has been raining. Come even more prepared for mosquitoes in the summer (I mean REALLY prepared).

1992 Worlds course that feels like it hasn't changed a whole lot since Ken Climo won his 3rd that year. 27 holes feature a variety of shots and shapes, from a few RHBH bombers to very tight woods holes. Fairways are generally pretty narrow, rough is very rough, and there are a lot of ways to lose discs here. Achilles heel of this course is the tee pads. I'm pretty sure they're the same ones Kenny played on in '92, and they have not aged well at all. They're tiny, not level, some are broken up, most require a step up to get onto, and some, front 9 especially, feel like you're risking broken limbs on them. Signage is limited to hole number and distance, along with a number of very helpful signs directing to the next hole. A few holes would benefit from signs showing the hole shape, but by and large they work. Baskets are hella old and not in golf shape. No rifling high-speed spin putts at these beasts. Pray hard enough and they might catch low-speed push putts. This course is notorious for being one of the wettest in Southeast Michigan. If it's rained, it'll be wet, guaranteed. It's also a bug haven in the summer. Maintenance is spotty at best. This course can be fun. It's not easy, and some of the holes are genuinely fun shots. Play it in late fall when it's dry and the leaves are down and the bugs are gone. That said, some new baskets and better tee pads and actual maintenance would help make this more than a love/hate play once a year course. As it stands though, I rarely am excited to play here.

So much fun shot variety: some fun, some not so fun. Bouncing through the trees, the scenery and amenities are impressive. Great course. They definitely need to do more regular maintenance though.
