About the course

DGCR description: Lake Okahumpka park's OG 9~hole (single tee/single pin) layout was upgraded to an 18~hole dual tee/dual pin layout, going from 9 holes with no options, to 18~holes with 72 options. Nearly all of the former tee and pin locations were integrated into the new design, but not necessarily in the same configuration. (Old #3 is gone) The par 59 course now begins in the middle of the park, across from the covered picnic tables, so that players can visit their vehicles after the new front 8 loop for more water or discs. The White tee to Red layout (short/short) was designed specifically for the Villages Chain Gang disc golf club. The other configurations are more about finesse than power. Most of the new 9 was cut through saw palmettos, oaks and a few magnolias. The front 8 loop is tightly wooded. The back 10 is more open & grassy, while remaining well shaded. All paved surfaces and beyond are Out of Bounds, as well as over any fences. Minimal water in play. Pros: Each hole now has 4 playing options. 36 brand new tee pads and baskets. Restrooms fairly close to hole #01. Most fairways are well shaded. Plenty of directional signs for easier navigation. Good course flow. A player can learn and grow their game on the same course, due to the 4 levels of play. Short to short features numerous ACE~runs. (Perfect for older players and “51” club) Shops and restaurants nearby. All tee & pin positions are 'permanent'. So, the baskets do not get shuffled around. 4 different course records. Cons: Still very new. (Ribbon cutting was 06-15-25) Some fairways still have palmetto roots that can make for some tricky footing. Spotters are recommended on much of the front 8 loop, especially #07 & 08. The course is 100% playable, but still requires OB & Caution signage, a rules sign and designating the color of each tee pad. (As of 06-27-25) Roughly 20 parking spots near the paved trail into the woods toward #01 tee. But very little shade for the cars unless people park under the trees near the former hole #1. (Currently #11) Long walk from #08 to #09 (due to a forced redesign) Holes #07 & 08 have a few too many trees. Some low areas can hold water in the rainy season. improvement.

Well done Sumter County. Signage was one of the best I’ve scene. Challenging first 9 battling the woods you can find blue on the back 9. I like that there was multiple par 4 holes. Hole 11 beautiful scenery.

Needs a lot of rounds show up and play. It’s good for intermediate. Long long is pretty hard but not terrible and short short is pretty easy just very technical.
