About the course

Jimmie Davis State Park, located in northern Louisiana, is home to a beautiful and challenging disc golf course. Designed by Mike Brown and inspired by golf course design legend Tom Weiskopf, this course offers players a unique and exciting experience. The course is a Par 72, which is similar to most traditional golf courses. However, unlike older disc golf courses that were made up entirely of Par 3s, the Jimmie Davis State Park course features Par 4s and even a few Par 5s. This new standard in disc golf course design requires players to make two good shots in order to score a birdie, just like in traditional golf. One of the most appealing aspects of this course is the beautiful natural setting. The course winds through a wooded area and around Caney Lake, providing stunning views and plenty of opportunities to connect with nature. The course is divided into two distinct halves, each offering a unique playing experience. The front nine holes are wide open, allowing players to really air out their drives and showcase their power. With spacious fairways and minimal obstacles, the front nine provides a great opportunity for players to unleash their throws and focus on maximizing distance. On the other hand, the back nine holes present a contrasting challenge. They are strategically designed in a tight, wooded area, demanding precision and finesse from players. These holes require accurate shot placement, as narrow fairways wind through dense foliage. The back nine's technical nature tests players' ability to navigate tight spaces, execute controlled shots, and avoid hazards, making it a rewarding experience for those who enjoy a more strategic approach to the game. To accommodate players of different skill levels and preferences, the course offers three sets of tee pads. The blue tee pads provide a challenging experience, offering longer distances and requiring precise shot execution. Experienced players will find themselves tested by the additional difficulty presented by these tee pads. The white tee pads, while generally shorter on most holes, are not just a reduced distance option. They are intentionally designed to create a separate and easier course within the overall layout. The white tee pads offer a distinct playing experience, allowing players to enjoy a more forgiving round while still facing a variety of interesting challenges. These tee pads are perfect for players who prefer a slightly easier and more relaxed game without compromising the overall enjoyment of the course. For novice and amateur players, as well as those seeking a more relaxed experience or a leisurely hike through the course, the red tees are the ideal option. These tee pads are designed specifically for players who are starting out or prefer a less demanding round. They offer shorter distances and simpler shot requirements, allowing players to focus on enjoying the course without feeling overwhelmed by its difficulty. In addition to the varying tee pad options, the course incorporates various terrain features, such as elevation changes and water hazards, to keep players on their toes and add an extra level of challenge. Another highlight of the Jimmie Davis State Park disc golf course is its attention to detail. Every hole is unique and offers players a different set of challenges to overcome. Each hole also has clearly marked tee boxes and baskets, making it easy for players to navigate the course. Whether you're a seasoned pro looking for a challenging round, an intermediate player seeking a balanced experience, or a novice just starting to explore the sport, the disc golf course at Jimmie Davis State Park has something for everyone. With its beautiful setting, attention to detail, challenging layout, and the contrasting characteristics of the front and back nine holes, it is a must-visit destination. So grab your discs and head on out to Jimmie Davis State Park for an unforgettable round of disc golf!

Even short tees are really long with no tee pads and most shots have no clear line having to throw power shots through a lot of close trees

The tale of two nines. Front nine is loosely wooded more open back nine is much more wooded and a little too wooded at times in my opinion. Course was in great shape in early spring I could see how in summer it could get a little grown up depending on upkeep levels. Overall a fantastic course can't recommend it enough even if it is off the beaten path a bit. Park has great scenery.
