About the course
The Chapel Hill High School Disc Golf Course is in the early stages of being built, currently featuring 18 new holes. Most holes are wooded, offering a challenging and scenic experience. To start at Hole 1, players walk around the fence toward Smith Baseball Field and enter through the woods. A gate and sign at the bus parking lot will be built soon for easier access. Holes 1 and 15–18 are true teepees, and Hole 14 features a raised deck teepad. Holes 2 and 7 currently have temporary homemade baskets, with permanent baskets coming soon. For Holes 2–12, red rocks mark the teepads. Although work on the course will continue through winter and spring of 2026, play is encouraged to help beat down the fairways. Signage will be installed, and funds are being raised for teepads and footbridges.
History
Eighteen baskets were bought by Chapel Hill High School in 2006. Seven were placed around the school grounds with no real course, and the rest remained in a track shed until 2025. Adam Arounerangsy, strength and conditioning coach at CHHS and an avid disc golf player, introduced the idea of building a disc golf course to high school students Bengt Levin and Jackson Ruff while they were putting on the old baskets. In 2025, high school student Bengt Levin built holes 13 through 18 for his Eagle Scout Project with Troop 39. This led to the formation of the Disc Golf Club and further development of the full 18-hole course. High school students Bengt Levin, Jackson Ruff, and Dagan Forman, along with the Chapel Hill Disc Golf Club, aim to make all 18 holes playable by June 2026.
