About the course

Seeley-Swan High School's course, created and maintained by the SSHS Student Council, weaves through towering Ponderosa Pine, Douglas Fir, and Larch near Morrell Creek in Seeley Lake, Montana. Holes 1-9 traverse mellow, flat terrain; they serve as both appetizer for the hardy and complete meal for those seeking a pleasant half-hour fix. Holes 10-18 do not care if you are on a schedule or if you'd prefer to keep debris OUTSIDE your shoes. I mean, they're manageable, but they do require commitment to a loose climb immediately after a potentially humbling uphill throw (#11) and a steep descent after you meet our special friend (#14). At #16, you'll approach the creek and then wind your way over, under, and around deadfall. At the #18 tee, you'll likely put your hand on the massive, all-knowing Ponderosa next to you, and as you choke back tears, you'll probably say, "I really don't want it to end, ol' pal." And the tree will be all like, "Dry up, fool. Just play another round. And this time, don't forget to leave a few bucks for the club. And, I saw you walk past that candy wrapper on #4. Not cool. Pick it up. And, if I may be so bold, you need to work on your putts."

Decent and surprisingly challenging community course. Not the most creative layout, and be prepared to trudge through tall grass the whole way, but worth playing for a quick round if you're in town. My biggest complaint is that, in its current state, hole 18 is literally impossible as a par 3. You cannot get within putting range in one shot with the holes current shape and condition (it is not the 150 foot straight shot the sign says it is).

Maybe they should let high schoolers design all the courses, because this one is sick. Phenomenal use of the forest, with tight lines, challenging shot shapes, and some real sicko tee pad placements. Would donate a few bucks to help ya’ll get real tee pads and replace the broken basket on 17. Otherwise this is a gem!
