The 100 European Disc Golf Courses People Most Want To Play: 2023

We've taken a look at plenty of Europe's stats before, like what its countries' most popular and best disc golf courses are. But this marks the first time we've looked at which European courses have made more disc golfers' wishlists than any others.

And we mean "wishlists" very literally. With UDisc, the world's top disc golf app, players can add courses to a wishlist saved in the app. They can filter searches just to show wishlisted courses or check their wishlist any time to remember which tracks across the world caught their eyes while perusing some of the over 14,000 disc golf courses in the UDisc Courses directory.

How Does Wishlisting Disc Golf Courses in UDisc Work?

Every time you view a course on the UDisc app where you have no recorded rounds, you'll see the Add to Wishlist option to the right of the course rating. If you tap it, the course is then added to your wishlist. When you search for courses, you can filter by wishlist and see where the courses are in the world that have caught your eye.

You can also see a map of every course you've wishlisted when you...

  1. Open the UDisc app
  2. Tap the More tab
  3. Scroll to Discover
  4. Tap Courses played / wishlist
  5. Tap Wishlist near the top of your screen

If you're going on trips, this is a great way to see if any of your must-plays are anywhere near your destination (or if you end up with clusters in certain areas, a good way to plan your next trip). Once you play a course, your wish has been fulfilled, and it leaves your wishlist.

Currently, wishlisting isn't possible with the web version of the UDisc course directory.

How Did You Make the List of the 100 European Disc Golf Courses People Most Want to Play in 2023?

We ranked European courses based on how many disc golfers with UDisc added them to their wishlists in 2023. Because we plan to update these rankings annually and want them to reflect which courses are the freshest additions to disc golfers' daydreams, we didn't include any wishlist totals prior to January 1, 2023.

Which European Countries Have the Most Disc Golf Courses People Dream of Playing?

Country Disc Golf Courses in Top 100 Most Wishlisted: Europe
Sweden 30
Norway 27
Denmark 12
Finland (incl. Åland Islands) 12
Germany 5

Sweden and Norway dominate Europe's most wishlisted courses, with over 50% of the top 100 in one of the two countries. When combining their totals with that of Finland and Denmark, you see that over 80% of the list is made up of courses in the Nordics. Only the U.K. (if counted as a bloc and not separate countries) and Germany had more than three courses make the list.

If you're not familiar with the European disc golf scene, these stats might surprise you, but Northern Europe has long been the hottest of hotbeds for the sport on the continent. The Nordics are particularly gaga for disc golf as proven by how they (plus nearby Estonia) lead the world in disc golf rounds per capita and are all in the the world's top 10 for disc courses per capita.

When we took a deep dive into disc golf's success in Finland, we discovered that things like an abundance of undeveloped land, government support for healthy leisure activities, and a strong culture of outdoor recreation drove the sport's popularity there. On the whole, other Nordic countries share those advantages to some degree, leading to high interest in the sport and high standards for courses.

Other European countries don't enjoy all of those pluses and deal with either lower levels of available public funding or much higher competition for and/or regulation of suitable land.

This all leads us to a few likely reasons the Nordics dominate this top 100: There are more Nordic disc golf courses generally; there are more Nordic disc golfers creating wishlists; and when disc golfers from more southerly European countries dream of playing a course, it's often one above them in the disc golf heaven that is the Nordic countries.

Some Things Worth Noticing About This Top 100

  • Krokhol and Øverås dominate
Norway's top-rated disc golf courses, Krokhol and Øverås, are far and away the most wishlisted in Europe. They both made over 50% more wishlists than the third place Järva in Sweden.

First opened in 2018, Krokhol Disc Golf Course has been among the world's top 10 disc golf courses since 2020 and has strengthened its position each year. Last year, it was the world's #2 course behind just the venerable Maple Hill in Massachusetts. Learn more about this epic and ever-improving course in our Krokhol Disc Golf Course profile.

In a fairly remote town on Norway's west coast, the stunning Øverås made the world top 10 for the first time in 2022 and was #14 in 2023. It also received lots of attention this year for hosting the first Disc Golf Pro Tour Elite Event outside the United States. We've got an Øverås profile, too, if you'd like to learn more.
  • The merry old land of Oslo
Norway's capital, Oslo, is one of the best cities in Europe for disc golf lovers, and plenty of people are daydreaming about visiting it. Three courses in the city plus the Oslo-adjacent Krokhol made the top 100.
  • Ale is back!
The multi-course Ale Disc Golf Center was a world-class disc golf destination near Sweden's second-largest city, Gothenburg, before it closed in early 2021. Under new ownership, the courses reopened to the public in early 2023, and people are eager to get on them. Ale's very challenging White and challenging but slightly easier yellow (double black diamond and single black diamond, respectively, in UDisc's new disc golf course difficulty ratings) both made the top 20 of the list.
  • Paul McBeth Foundation Montenegro course makes the list
The Paul McBeth Foundation (PMF) is a non-profit created by and named after a still-touring disc golfer that most consider in the running for the title of the greatest of all time. The organization's aim is to establish courses and disc golf communities to offer a low-cost form of healthy recreation to underserved areas in the world. The Foundation hasn't had many European projects to date, but one was in often overlooked Montenegro. Likely thanks to McBeth's star power among disc golfers, the course made this top 100. Learn more about the PMF in our post covering its first-ever project in Mexico.
  • A great way to discover a new daydream
Given that helping other disc golfers discover great courses has always been at the core of UDisc's mission, we tend to keep tabs on which courses are building up reputations. However, this list gave even us a few new courses to drool over, and we hope it helps get your wonderlust running high, too.

What to Know Before Reading This Top 100

  • Mobile and tablet users can swipe left/right on the table to see all columns.
  • You can see photos, reviews, availability, and more of any course in the table by just tapping or clicking its name.
  • The European Wish Grade is based on how often a course was wishlisted in the UDisc app as compared to the #1 most wishlisted course on the continent. Like a test graded on a curve, the #1 course has a score of 100.0 and the other courses' grades are based on how their wishlist totals measure up to that top mark.
  • The Rating is the course's rating out of five stars based on the opinions of disc golfers with UDisc at the time we pulled these stats shortly before the publication date. Depending on when you read this, the course rating may be different in the directory than it is here.
  • A green dollar sign ($) under "Fee?" means a course is a traditional pay-to-play.
  • A gray dollar sign ($) means that a course is technically free to play but donations are encouraged.
  • No dollar sign means a course is free to play as far as we know.
