Description
Moderately hilly Heavily wooded Water in play on hole 14 and behind hole 12 Multiple tees and pin locations Two courses on site: Recreational (red) and intermediate course (white). Gold course indicated on signage is generally unplayable. Basket rungs point to next tee (red or white). Color on center pole of target indicates which course (red, white or both/shared). Rec tee signs have red marking on top. White tees have the 4x4 posts with traditional signs (use UDisc for distances). Increased directional signage, completion of turf pads, new tee signs and a revamped blue layout (replacing “gold”) in progress... stay tuned! This course resides on a historical landmark, listed on the National Register (1975). This was the center of operations for the Leigh Plantation. This land saw the 1771 march of Colonial Governor Tryon on his way to put down The Regulators at Alamance Creek. It is rumored to have been the site of the last skirmish of the Civil War as Sherman’s men pursued Johnston’s men across New Hope Creek, on the way to the ultimate surrender at Bennett Place in northern Durham. And not to be forgotten, the enterprise of this plantation, like most, was possible through the atrocity of enslavement of human beings. Please treat this course, land and history with the respect it’s historical significance demands.
